Song Hye Kyo
BIOGRAPHYSong Hye Kyo is a 29-year-old Korean actress who is also at the head of the ‘Hallyu’ cultural movement. ‘Hallyu’, also called the Korean Wave. Hallyu is used to define the spread of the latest Korean culture (plastic arts, film, music) to other parts of Asia and notably to China. The movement began in the early 1990s and mainly embodied by Korean artists between the ages of 20- and 30-years-old.
After a career as a figure skater, Song Hye Kyo was noticed by an agent during a performance and won the modeling contest organized by the SunKyung Smart brand of school uniforms.
She went on to appear in popular TV programs, for which she won her first acting award, Best New Actress for « Soonpoong Clinic » at the 1998 SBS Drama Awards.
Song Hye Kyo became the most popular actress in Korea in 2000 thanks to her role in the series « Autumn in my heart », which garnered her KBS Drama Awards for most photogenic and most popular actress.
Her popularity continued to soar when she took on the lead role in the series « All in » in 2003, for which she won the Best Actress, Top Excellence & Top 10 Stars awards.
In 2004, she won the KBS Drama Awards for Best Actress, Top Excellence & Popularity & Best Couple with Rain for « Full House ».
Song Hye Kyo began her film career in 2005 in « My Girl and I », but it was her role in « Hwang Jin-yi » (2007) that got her noticed on the big screen: she won the 2007 Best New Actress prize at the Korean Film Awards.
Hollywood opened its doors in 2008, with the independent movie « Fetish » by Soopum Sohn.
She was elected the most beautiful woman in Asia in 2010 and is ranked 18th on the « TC Candler's list of Most Beautiful Faces ».
Song Hye Kyo became a beauty model in all Asia, and the muse for many various field-brands such as cellphones, beverages, cosmetics : she is the face of « La Neige Cosmetics» since 2007.
Song Hye Kyo recently shot Today and currently finishes The Grandmasters, Wong Kar Wai’s next movie, alongside Tony Leung and Zhiang Ziyi. The film to be on screen in 2012, retraces the chinese master Ip Man’s steps, who taught martial arts to Bruce Lee. Song Hye Kyo would be part of John Woo’s upcoming movie. She plays one of the leading role alongside Zhang Ziyi and Zhang Chen.
